How We Got Here
A group of Christians, primarily from First Baptist
Church in LaGrange, held Bible Study meetings in Round Top, Texas. They soon
rented space on the town square by FM 237 and the church formed there was named
Round Top Baptist Church. Without a full time pastor, guest speakers
preached each Sunday. During this period, the church was given money
specifically for the purpose of purchasing land and building a church
building. Using this gift, one and one half acres were purchased at the
current site located at 440 E. Mill Street.
A full time pastor, Matthew Diehl, was called and the
name of the church was changed to Round Top Church - Christian Fellowship.
This name change allowed the church to reach out to all Christians regardless of
Denomination. The Fellowship grew by way of believers who had
purchased second homes and retirement homes. The
Fellowship proved to be a place
of Worship for those spending the weekend in the Round Top area.
The church was able to purchase an additional half acre
of land adjacent to the back side of the original property, creating a building
site of two acres. Round Top Church began a building program resulting in
a multi-functional community building completed in 2002. Within a year the
building was paid for and the congregation was debt free.
Veronica Skaggs, Children's Director, helped start a
Vacation Bible School program that continues to reach out to the community
The Fellowship was led by the Lord to call a youth
minister, Jacob Sealy. This enabled the
Fellowship to expand in many areas. An elementary school age after school
program called "Stand Out" was started. This program partners
with the local elementary school. The church also began off campus Bible
studies and a Sunday night youth service.
The youth group began meeting regularly in the Fall of
2009 and reached out to the Middle and High School students of the surrounding
The Fellowship purchased 2.5 acres next to the existing
site. Future plans are to are to build a dedicated sanctuary in front of
the existing building. The additional property will be used for parking
and recreation. The youth program continues to expand into the surrounding
areas and provides events and camps for the summer. Round Top
Church has provided Bible conferences for the community and surrounding area.
Fellowship purchased five acres with a three bedroom, two bath home on Round Top
Road and Floyd Lane. The residence was purchased for staff housing.
